Club History
Originally formed in 1971 by a group of like minded employees of the Pressed Steel Fisher group. In the early 80's the club's name was changed to Austin Rover when Pressed Steel Fisher was taken over by the Austin Rover Company.
The factory has had many different owners and is currently the BMW Group, but the camping and caravan club retained the Austin Rover name, and philosophy until October 2005 when it became the SWINDON CARAVAN AND CAMPING CLUB which it is to this day.
The club actively promotes camping and caravan rallies for its members throughout the year. One of the many advantages of membership is the considerably cheaper site fees the club can arrange for rallies rather than a stay at the same site when booking as an individual family. Swindon Caravan and Camping Club is also part of the much larger British Leyland Association, which is made up of 15 clubs which incidentally were all British Leyland plants, some of which are now closed. Each club in the association have their own rally programme and compete against each other in various sporting events annually.
As a member of Swindon CCC you are eligable to go on any of the other clubs rallies whether it is for a weekend, week, or two week holiday.
Membership of the club is available to anyone, not just employees of the BMW Group.
