Well, what years 2020/21 have been for us all, as you will be aware we had to cancel most of our rallies. The biggest disappointment was Fairford, which at the point the show was cancelled we already had over 30 units booked indicating it was going to be the best year we had ever had.

One rally that did go ahead was Stowford Farm Meadows in September, once again we were made to feel very welcome here and have booked it again for next year.

We couldn't manage a full programme in 2021 as Covid continued to reduce communal activities but it was great to get back on the road again.  We are now looking forward to 2022 and preparing for a fuller return to camping and caravanning. Our rally programme is being prepared right now and we hope to see you all out and about next year, we will of course be following all the Covid secure guidelines that are required on our rallies next year.

Now that the UK has ended our relationship with the EU please remember - you can have a maximum of 90 days in the EU without a visa.  You must also have at least 6 months left on your passport on your travel date.

Best regards

Steve Morgan

The membership fees for 2022 will be announced soon.

Philip Gray (updated 25 April 2022)

It is with great sadness we announce that, Philip Gray, a very long standing member of our club, has passed away.

His funeral was on Thursday 14th April 2022.  We will miss him greatly,

We thank Philip and Angela for their very valued contributions to the club and will miss Philip greatly.

Most of us are now vaccinated so the committee are hopeful that rallies can resume in 2022.  Please see our Rallies page for full information.

The Chairman delivered his report direct to members this week.  We have decided not to repeat it here in full as there are some matters private to members.  Here is an abbreviated overview:

The Chairman wrote to members before the AGM to encourage members to attend and help make important decisions.  The attendance at the meeting was less than expected.

The Club recovered from reduced membership in 2005 and thrived in the following years.  Following 18 months of pandemic, things are again challenging.

The Club is asking members to step forward and help with committee matters.

Membership continues into 2022 and this will enable members to access BLCCC rallies and the Fairford rally will also take place in 2023.

As we emerge from the pandemic, and with the surge in the purchase of campervans, we are hopeful we will attract new members and revitalise the Club.

Here's to 2022 and things improving all around!

Messages To Members

To all of our Swindon Caravan Club members:- we are really hopeful that 2022 will lift the mood by allowing us back on the road again.  2021 was such a better year for all of us but still not back to normal.  The committee send you all our good wishes and hopes that you and yours have stayed safe.

The committee are planning some great events for 2022.  If you would like to recommend a campsite for future consideration we would love to hear about it.

Committee Membership and Helping Out

Your committee are always seeking input, your views and input. If you are interested, why not discuss helping out with a current committee member.  You don't have to be a committee member to contribute, there are activities at rallies that would really support the club.

Instructions for Members - From BLCCA Meetings

Clubs were reminded that under BLCCC rules the flying of Drones or Kites near caravans is strictly forbidden.

The consensus from clubs was that a Non Unit-Owning Members (NUOM), had to be over 18 years of age and want to attend a rally in a member's unit. These individuals must be a club NUOM member.  Each club is to decide if a NUOM member had a vote at club meetings.

The BL Association Committee have undertaken a review of the practice of using gas cylinders outside of units and the conclusion was that tall large external gas cylinders present an unacceptable hazard.

For the use of bottled gas in touring caravans and motor-homes it was agreed that the Association would encourage the adoption of manufacturer's recommendations i.e. gas cylinders are to be located in dedicated internal storage lockers.

Where is it necessary to keep gas cylinders outside of a unit’s locker, for example where an old caravan does not have a purpose built locker, the permitted maximum size is now limited to 15kg. The cylinder must be strapped securely to the unit and connected with a short proprietary hose in good condition and not be under any strain or be vulnerable to strain.

The practice of using an external cylinder to feed into the caravan system via a barbecue outlet is not permitted irrespective of size of cylinder.

E-Cigarettes and Vaporisers

The subject of e-cigarettes and vaporisers was raised after it had been reported that a few individuals have been smoking them at social evenings.  It was agreed that the No Smoking ban remains and both e-cigarette and vaporiser smokers should go outside with normal smokers.

Illegal Drugs

The use of illegal drugs is not supported by the club.  If you take illegal drugs on a rally and are identified as doing so you and your party will be asked to leave the rally field and the police may be notified.

Marshalling Volunteers?  Your Club needs YOU

Every rally relies on Club Marshals to make it run smoothly.  The task is not onerous and is very rewarding.

Why not volunteer next season?  It is a rewarding and enjoyable experience.
